As pet owners we try to spend as much time with our fur babies as we can, but in this busy day and age, it is impossible for us to with our pets 24/7. These 3 DIY PVC dog feeders will help insure your dog still has food and water even if you aren’t home at feeding time.

Dog Gravity Feeder

Dog Gravity Feeder Plans

Gravity dog feeders are an ideal solution for those owners who can’t feed their pets on a regular schedule. It is not only safe but also budget-friendly to make this PVC dog feeder at home. Having said that, proper design and planning are necessary to be successful in your efforts.

Once you have finalized a sustainable design, you need to purchase all the required items from a hardware store.

Materials Needed:

  • 1 3-inch PVC pipe
  • 2 3-inch end caps
  • 1 3-inch 90o elbow
  • PVC glue
  • A hacksaw

Directions

  1. The very first thing that you need to do is to cut a short piece of pipe (about 2-inches long) from the original pipe. This small piece will be used to connect the lower end cap with the 90o elbow.
  2. Use PVC glue to join these parts. This is a really critical step because we will need to cut these parts to make the feeder mouth.
  3. Then, glue the original pipe (what’s remaining of it) with the elbow to add some strength to the feeder. Let the glue settle down for a few minutes before proceeding.
  4. You can glue the connection between the PVC pipe and the top end cap but it’s not recommended. This is because a loose connection will be beneficial in the future for cleaning purposes. Similarly, gluing the top end cap is NOT an option as it will be used to refill the feeder.
  5. When the glue is set, make a cut (like the one in the image below) in the PVC fitting to create the mouth of the gravity feeder.
  6. Remove any residue of plastic (deburring) to make sure that it doesn’t get mixed with your dog’s food.
  7. Lastly, fill the feeder with some food. Start the filling process from the lower part because starting to fill the feeder from the top can spill the food everywhere.

PVC Pipe Dog Waterer

Just like food, an uninterrupted supply of drinking water is also essential for your dog. A PVC pipe dog waterer is a cost-efficient solution for busy dog parents. All you need for this alternative is a PVC pipe and some fitting.

Materials Needed:

  • 1 3-inch PVC pipe
  • 1 3-inch end cap
  • 2 3-inch 90o elbows
  • PVC glue

Directions

  1. Use PVC glue to join the pipe with one of the 90o elbows.
  2. Now, connect both the elbows (as shown in the video) to complete a safe water bowl.
  3. Lastly, fill the pipe with some water and place the end cap at the top. NEVER glue the end cap because it is your only way to fill the waterer.

Dog Feeder Out of PVC Pipe

A PVC pipe is an exceptional alternative for all the expensive dog feeders in the market. It allows you to feed your dog automatically (in your absence) without spending too much money. You can make an inexpensive dog feeder by following the instructions below.

Materials Needed:

  • A 4-inch PVC pipe
  • A pair of nuts and bolts
  • A newspaper
  • A marker
  • A hacksaw
  • A drill

Directions

  1. Place a newspaper over the top of the PVC pipe and mark the edges for the feeder.
  2. Trace the pattern of the cutting on the pipe with a marker.
  3. Then, use the hacksaw to cut out the pattern. You can also use a drill to make a hole in the PVC pipe if you are using a blade for cutting. The hole will make it easier to cut with the blade.
  4. Use the extracted part to make the legs for your feeder. For doing that, cut that piece of pipe into two parts and bolt them onto the edges of the original pipe. In order to bolt the legs of the feeder, you will need to drill through the pipe and the legs.
  5. Fill this dog feeder with some food and let him/her enjoy a quality meal (even when you are not around).
