Why Cane Corsos Shed?

The Cane Corso is generally low to moderate shedder, but several factors can alter both the frequency and extent to which they shed that should be considered. The primary reasons why cane Corso shed are as follows.

Seasonal Shedding

Cane Corso sheds all year, but sheds more in late spring or early summer to assist them to prepare for cold winter. It may last until early fall when it is replaced with new, thicker hair for the cold season. The amount of shedding will rise throughout the two shedding seasons of the year, spring and fall. In the spring, the Cane Corso loses its undercoat to avoid overheating in the summer, and in the fall, it sheds its thin summer hair to allow its warm undercoat to reappear.

Weather

Your Cane Corso will shed more or less depending on whether you live in a warm or cold area. A Cane Corso living in a cold area will grow a longer and thicker undercoat. This means that they will molt more during the shedding season.

Age

Age is a significant factor to be considered. A Cane Corso puppy sheds far less than an adult dog, while a senior dog sheds far more than an adult dog.

Nutritional Deficiency

Diet and exercise, believe it or not, can affect how much your Cane Corso sheds. A lack of certain vitamins and minerals can trigger molting, and overweight dogs can also have skin and hair problems.

How to Manage Shedding for Cane Corsos?

The next best thing you can do is to limit or decrease your Cane Corso’s shedding because you can’t prevent it. Here are some actions you may do to control your Cane Corso’s shedding.

Brushing

Brushing often will reduce shedding. But any brush won’t do to solve this problem. It must be specially intended to reduce shedding, get rid of stray hairs, and strengthen the hair and coat.

Choose the Right Shampoo

It is a typical issue in homes with many pets. Breeders sometimes use a single shampoo for all of their dogs, but even those with a holistic recipe might not be suitable for Cane Corsos. They require shampoo with a lot of vitamin E or royal jelly.

Avoid Frequent Bathing

Reduce your bathing, especially when you are shedding. The more often you bathe your dog, the more hair it sheds, which may seem illogical. This breed doesn’t need a lot of maintenance, and as long as you brush them frequently, they won’t mind getting fewer baths.

Diet

To avoid making the situation worse, start with a nutritious diet. This breed requires a rigorous diet regimen since eating a lot of commercial food may result in allergies and shed more. You will also need to give your dog a good serving of omega-fatty acids to strengthen hair.
