Onions Are a No for Dogs!

It can’t get any plainer than that. Onions are on the must not eat list for dogs. But it is not just onions you have to watch out for. They should not eat any Allium plants, including onions, garlic, chives, and leeks.

Some people say it is okay to give them a little bit of these food items at one time. How much you give them depends on their weight. When you feed your dog onions, you are opening your dog’s red blood cells to attack.

The thiosulphate chemical in onions can damage your dog’s red blood cells which in turn can cause vomiting, tiredness, diarrhea, and dark urine to name a few ailments.

It is best not to feed your dog any amount of those vegetables at any time. There are also hydrocyanic acid compounds in onions that are very poisonous to dogs.

The worst that can happen when you feed your dog large amounts of onions is brain damage or death. If your dog ate some onions on their own, then get them to the vet as soon as possible.
