Making a dog potty at home is much easier than you think. All you need to do is to make a large frame and complement it with a removable tray for drainage. However, you must consider the size of your pet and available space to avoid any problems in the long run. You can make a really efficient balcony dog bathroom by following the instructions explained below.

Materials Needed:

• 4 pieces of 2×6 lumber, cut to 30 inches
• 4 pieces of 1×2 lumber, cut to 27 inches
• 1-¼-inch PVC reinforced braided vinyl tubing
• Hose clamp to fit 1-¼ tubing
• 1-¼-inch diameter insert combination elbow
• 1-¼-inch plastic slip joint nut
• Water heater drip pan that bottom drains
• Plywood cut to drip pan dimensions, including spout spot
• Expanded steel, sized to fit the frame
• Steel crossbar of the width of the base frame
• Metal flashing
• Artificial Grass
• Screws or nails
• Pencil

Directions

1. Start the process by joining all the 2×6 boards (with screws or nails) to form a large square. This will serve as the base of the dog bathroom.
2. Once it is done, you will need to build the inner rails for the drip pan and plywood to sit on. For this purpose, you will screw the 1×2 pieces of lumber inside the square frame. Make sure that they are centered on each side. Likewise, the side rails should be slanted slightly to ensure the passage of waste to the drain spout.  
3. Now, place the drain pan on a piece of plywood and carefully cut a hole for the drain spout. Trim the pan so that it could fit on top of the plywood.
4. Insert the elbow into the drain hole and secure it with the help of a plastic slip joint nut. Attach the drain pan to the frame and make sure that the hole is aligned properly.
5. After that, cut a notch in the bottom side of the base. This will allow the hose to pass. Similarly, cut a notch on either side of the frame and connect the steel crossbar.
6. Then, place the metal flashing and extended steel on top of the Balcony Dog Potty frame. Finally, lay the artificial grass over the top of the extended steel to complete the dog bathroom.  

DIY Balcony Dog Bathroom

Some dogs don’t like the feel of synthetic grass and prefer real grass for relieving themselves. If you own such a canine, this budget-friendly pet potty is just the thing you need. The presence of wheels makes the cleaning and transportation extremely convenient. Keep reading to know how you can create this easy-to-build toilet for your pup.

Materials Needed:

• 8 sqft. roll of Sod grass (lasts for up to 2-3 weeks)
• 2’x4’ plywood, cut to 45”
• A 48” kennel tray
• 4-5 2” rubber wheel casters
• ¾” screws
• Drill/screwdriver
• Circular Saw (optional)
• Knife or garden shears

Directions

1. The first step of making this dog bathroom involves the connection of casters to the plywood. For this purpose, you will either use a drill or a screwdriver to attach the casters directly to the wood. In this case, the screws may show on the other side of the plywood.
2. Alternatively, you can cut (with a circular saw) small pieces of excess wood for screwing the wheels. This completes the base on which the grass pad will be placed. Generally, 4 wheels are enough to provide the necessary support. However, you can add the 5^th caster for additional support if you own a large breed.
3. Once the frame is ready, place the kennel tray on its top surface. The size of the tray should always be bigger than the base to save the wood from smelling.  
4. Now, lay the real grass on the kennel tray and remove the excess sod with a sharp knife.
5. After that, brush the grass to a lifted position and apply some water to it. You will need to water the grass every day to keep it fresh. Usually, a natural grass dog pad does last for at least 2-3 weeks.
6. Introduce your canine companion to the Balcony Dog Potty.

Note: Given the fact that this dog potty is easy to transport, you can also use it outside the home.
