NOTE: Always consult your vet before changing your dog’s diet.

Eggs are harmless for your dog, provided that they are cooked and fed in moderation. Therefore, it’s always a good idea to give boiled or scrambled eggs to your canine friend. The following are some nutritional benefits of eggs for poodles.

Eggs Contain Vitamins

Vitamins are an essential nutrient in a dog’s diet and eggs are a great source of several vitamins. Some of the most useful vitamins that are present in eggs are listed below.

  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin B1
  • Vitamin B6
  • Vitamin B12
  • Vitamin E
  • Vitamin K

Vitamins boost your dog’s immune system, aid in growth, and even improve skin and coat. You can’t go wrong with giving your poodle one cooked egg a day.

Eggs are Full of Minerals

Just like vitamins, minerals are a core component of a poodle’s meal. Dogs require several minerals (in different quantities) to stay healthy. Minerals, like copper, zinc, and manganese, are needed in small amounts while calcium, sodium, and magnesium are required in larger amounts.

Egg whites contain almost all the minerals your Poodle needs. In addition to that, eggshells are a great source of calcium. For this reason, some people like to feed their canines eggshells.

Eggs have Fatty Acids

Fat is not always a bad thing as dogs need good fatty acids to prevent several problems. Egg yolk is full of these fatty acids that are used to keep your dog’s body cells in peak condition. Fatty acids act as a delivery system for fat-soluble vitamins and transport them throughout the body.

When is Egg Bad for Poodles?

Poodles can safely eat eggs unless you decide to give them several eggs a day. However, there are some adverse effects of eggs that you must know.

Uncooked Eggs are Bad

Never feed uncooked eggs to your dog. They don’t carry any extra nutritional benefits but can lead to Salmonella infections. If your dog is healthy, he/she may not become ill even after ingesting infectious bacteria. However, it’s better to be safe than sorry and you should always give your poodle cooked eggs.

Too Much Avidin

Giving your dog too many eggs increases his/her avidin intake, which results in biotin deficiency. Avidin is a biotin-binding protein that inhibits the production of biotin. Biotin helps your poodle to stay healthy and have a shiny coat. Similarly, it helps in cell growth, improved metabolism, and several other important body functions. Therefore, moderation is key when feeding eggs to poodles.
