Generally, poodles should be bathed once every 2 to 3 weeks. During this period, the body of poodles secretes a precise amount of oils to keep their skin moisturized. Good grooming practices, like using a dog-safe shampoo and conditioner, are quite important for maximizing the benefits of a bath. In fact, it is one of the major factors in meeting the bathing scheduling of your poodle.

How to Bathe a Poodle?

The following are simple steps that anyone can follow to give a bath to their poodle.

Gather All Necessary Products

Purchasing the right products is the very first thing that you need to do to bathe a poodle. Some of the necessary items for bathing your pup are listed below.

  • Dog brush
  • Plastic container
  • Dog Shampoo
  • Dog Conditioner
  • Sponge/washcloth
  • Towel
  • Rubber mat
  • Basin or a Bathtub

Prepare Your Dog

Make your poodle sit on a rubber mat and brush out every snag in his/her coat. This will provide an untangled coat that will speed up the cleaning process and make it easier.

Fill Your Poodle’s ‘Bathtub’

You should always fill up the basin/bathtub with warm water for bathing a poodle. This is because they can pick up the cold very quickly and must be given comfortable conditions. The level of water should also be normal so that your poodle becomes wet without getting drowned in it.

Put Your Dog in the Water

Now, place your pup into his/her ‘bathtub’ and wet his/her coat with water by using a sponge. Spread the water carefully while avoiding its eyes, ears, and mouth.

Shampoo Your Poodle

Make your dog stand in the basin and rub the shampoo on his/her coat. You can use treats to make your pup stand up easily. This will also create a positive association in the mind of your poodle.

Rinse Out Your Pooch

A plastic container is used to dig out some water from the bathtub. After that, pour it on the poodle’s coat and rub the shampoo out completely.

Thoroughly Dry Your Poodle

Drying your dog is really important to prevent them from falling sick. Start the process by placing your canine on a drying mat. After that, use a towel to dry out the coat even more until it gets slightly damp.

Condition Your Dog

Lastly, apply some conditioner to your poodle’s hair. This helps in preventing the skin from wiping out and is also effective in keeping the coat tangle-free.
