9 Dog Breeds with Spots on Skin

Many dog breeds have more than one color in their coats. Some of them can have spots while others may contain markings on their skin. The shape, size, and color of these spots can vary from one breed to another. The following is a list of some of the most common dog breeds with spots on their skin.

American Hairless Terrier

This hairless breed originated in the United States in 1972. An American Hairless Terrier is apparently quite similar to Rat Terriers. These pups can grow up to 18 inches long and the average weight for this breed is around 25 pounds. They don’t need too much space and can adapt to smaller places.

American Hairless Terriers look quite beautiful because of their colorful skin. These canines have pink skin with different spots such as black, golden, or grey. They make an ideal family pet because of their friendly nature and gentle behavior with children and other pets.

Hailing from Tennessee, the Blueticks descended from the Foxhounds. These large pooches are around 21-27 inches long and can weigh between 45 and 80 pounds. They are very intelligent, quick, and obedient dogs that are mainly used for tracing and hunting.  However, they can also be good for families because of their loyalty and affectionate nature.

Bluetick Coonhound has a large head with a black nose. They also have an attractive appearance due to their varying skin colors. These pups have thick spots of blue color with black clouding. Some of them may have black or red spots over the eyes as well as on the lower legs and chest. These colorful coats need regular cleaning (almost every week) to maintain their beauty.

Brittany Spaniel

This French breed comes from the group of Gundogs. Brittany Spaniels are neither large nor small as they are about 17-21 inches (30-40 lbs) long. They love to hunt small animals, like rabbits, but Brittanies can also be domesticated due to their cool attitude.

Brittany Spaniels look very elegant with hazel eyes and short ears. They come in three different colors because of the spots on their skin. Mostly, these canines are in white or black color with black, white, or liver spots.

Catahoula Hound

This American dog is very popular in the United States because it is one of the oldest breeds. These dogs grow up to 26 inches in size with 55-80 lbs weight. They are mostly used for herding sheep and cattle. However, they can also become a good guard dog due to their alert personality.

Catahoula Hounds have a large and flat skull. Their single layer coat usually has two colors (blue and grey) with black spots. Some of them can also have red or yellow spots on their skin. Irrespective of the colors, the coat of these pooches must be cleaned once in a week.

Chihuahua

Dalmatian

Staffordshire Terrier
