Although this recipe will take longer than other dog treats, your pup will go wild for these jerky treats. Any type of meat can be used for this purpose but we have chosen beef as our preferred option. The mentioned quantities of ingredients will make 3 trays of beef jerky.

Ingredients

  • A lean cut of beef (like flank steak with little or no marbling)
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar (per pound of meat)

Instructions

  1. Determine the required amount of marinade (according to the quantity of meat).
  2. Prepare the beef by removing all visible fat and cutting thin slices.
  3. Place the beef in the marinade and marinate in the refrigerator for 4-24 hours. Don’t forget to stir and ensure that everything is evenly covered.
  4. Once the beef is ready, strain it from the marinade and dry it with a paper towel.
  5. Now, preheat your dehydrator or oven to 160o F. If you are using a dehydrator, remove all the trays. This will prevent the trays from getting dirty due to the raw meat juice.
  6. Then, place sliced beef onto dehydrator trays, making sure to leave enough room between every piece for good airflow.
  7. Place trays in the dehydrator leaving good space between each tray and set the timer for 4 hours. In the case of oven, you should set the timer at 3 hours.
  8. Once the beef is cooked and dehydrated, allow it to cool completely before serving.
  9. You can also store it in an airtight container because this beef jerky can be kept at room temperature for a week. You can also put it in the fridge for preserving it for 2 weeks or more.
